Work Less Wednesday: January 5
WLW #201
👋 Hey Reader!
This is issue #201 of Work Less Wednesday, where I share with you 5 things you should know about, in 5 minutes or less. That leaves you with 10,075 other minutes this week.
📗 1. Book I’m Perusing – AD Reader (Vol. 2) by Now-Time

Been enjoying the latest release from Now-Time, The AD Reader (Vol. 2).
Billed as “Texts that shall survive their time,” the reader is a compilation of 25 writings from across the ages.
It’s a combination of design, images, and philosophy that is meant to be absorbed, not consumed.
I’ve enjoyed being exposed to new ideas and thinkers, as well as the general aesthetic and vibe of the book.
The books are currently out of print, but if you hop on their mailing list, they occasionally reprint (and sell out fast).
🎻 2. YouTube Channel I’m Digging – Creative Sovereignty
My friend Zander just launched a new YouTube channel for his business, Creative Sovereignty.
Zander is a world class Cello player, a former Cirque du Soleil performer, an incredible entrepreneur, and on top of that, a great friend.
I was fortunate enough to speak to his clients at their in-person event last year in Montreal (you can watch the replay here).
If you’re a creative entrepreneur, I would definitely check out what Zander is building.
💪 3. Great Article I Read This Week – Fuck willpower by Cate Hall
This article picks up where the 80/20 Principle and The 4 Hour Workweek leaves off.
Here are some select quotes:
“The Myth of Willpower is the idea that virtue lies in exerting extreme effort to overcome obstacles, and that any success attained without effort is actually bad, bordering on immoral.”
“Instead of focusing on willpower as the solution, you should be focusing on making your goals as easy as possible to achieve.”
“The truth is that high-agency people are always looking for shortcuts. They are never thinking, “how can I work hard and demonstrate my willpower,” but rather, “how can I get results faster by maximizing my leverage?”
“If your life is well-designed, it should feel easy to live up to your ideals, rather than hard.”
🍂 4. Eden Is Dead – What That Should Tell You About AI

I was lucky enough to be invited to be beta tester for Dan Koe’s new startup, Eden.
It was billed as “workspace for creatives.”
It was a cool product with some really interesting use cases.
But yesterday all the beta users got a shocking email…
Eden (in its current form) is shutting down.
“We went broke and had to let go of over half the team.”
Basically, they introduced agents and their AI bill went through the roof.
“We’re talking about being billed $1,000 every 30 minutes… we don’t make anywhere near that amount.”
“We simply aren’t a massive corporation that can subsidize it’s users for $5000 of usage on a $20 per month plan.”
They were 2 weeks away from bankruptcy.
So they pivoted the product completely.
(You can check out the new version here)
This is a conversation I’ve been having constantly with my consulting clients.
Eden is just a canary in the coal mine.
No one is paying the true cost of AI credits or tokens right now.
They are HIGHLY subsidized.
We are in the phase of the $20 Uber to JFK Airport from Manhattan.
But eventually, these companies are going to have to make money.
And you’re going to have to ask yourself…
“Would I pay 10 times more for the AI tools that I’m currently using?”
Worth thinking about.

💸 2. Free Workshop Friday – “How To Charge More In 2026”

I taught this workshop last week and it blew people’s minds.
So I’m going to run it back one more time.
We covered:
✅ The surprising trend I’m seeing in the market going into 2026 (based on my work with high-level clients)
✅ What my high-level clients are doing to close $10k-$250k deals, right now!
✅ The 4 steps to structure your business to charge way more in 2026
If you’d like to attend, you can register for free here.
I’ll also give you a special opportunity to join us for 💸 How To Charge More Cohort 2.
P.S. Here is some of the feedback from last week’s attendees:
“I have been hyped by too many webinars that failed to deliver – yours was the opposite. I got more than I ever thought I would. I was ready to hear the expertise and experience you had to say. Thank you!” – Arthur
“Thank you for all this valuable information Rich!! 🔥” – Ken
“Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge and clear steps, Rich! Really appreciate it 🙏🏼” – Diederick
“Found this to be really helpful, might just join!” – Grace (she did! 😄)
💸 3. How To Charge More Cohort 2 – Program Starts MONDAY!
📌 And since we’re talking about charging more money…

Enrollment for 💸How To Charge More Cohort 2 is in full swing.
We’ve already got an incredible crew of new and returning students joining us for the next cohort.
Over the 4 week program, you’ll:
💸 Raise the price of your offer OR launch a brand new high-price, high-value offer ($10k minimum)
☺️ Lose the fear of charging more and unlearn the limiting beliefs blocking you from higher prices.
👥 Attract better clients who value your expertise and happily pay for it.
🤝 Sell with confidence, knowing exactly what to say, how to say it, and what your work is truly worth.
The course starts Monday, May 4th, so if you’re considering joining us, now’s the time!
📈 4. Article I Enjoyed – The Mathematical Reason Most People Never “Make It”
Interesting Substack article on Price’s Law:
“Price’s Law states that the square root of the number of people in a domain does 50% of the work.
Here’s what that looks like in practice:
- In a company with 100 employees, 10 people produce half the output
- In a field with 10,000 scientists, 100 produce half the meaningful research
- On a team of 25, 5 people carry the entire operation”
What does that mean for your life and business?
🖐 5. More Things I’m Into This Week…
🎧 What I’m Listening To – Taoasis by Mathias Grassow (1987)
📘 Book I’m Reading – Creative Mind and Success by Ernest S. Holmes (1919)
🙆♂️ Exercise Method I’m Exploring – Bioenergetics (Devaraj Sandberg)
👂 Free Mac Audio Transcription Tool I’m Using – MacWhisper
💬 Quote I’m Pondering…
“A tree grows taller to the degree that its roots go deeper and wider. If we wish to jump high, we must first bend close to the ground to get the impetus for the spring. Like a jet engine, we move forward by thrusting backward. In therapy each backward move provides the energy for the leap forward. Regression and progression go on side by side.”
– Alexander Lowen, Fear of Life: The Wisdom of Failure

The video focuses on this question:
Are you taking action in your life because you’re afraid of what might happen if you stop?
Or are you doing it because you genuinely enjoy the process?

💰 2. 21 Rules To Charge Higher Prices – New Substack Post

Since we’re talking about charging more… I compiled this list of 21 rules after over a decade of pricing obsession.
Here are the first 5:
- Sell outcomes. Clients don’t care what you do. They care what they will get. Talk about outcomes – not deliverables, tasks, or time.
- High prices create better clients. Cheap and expensive clients take the same amount of energy to manage. People who pay more are more committed, have more clarity, and get better results.
- Never lower your prices to win a client. It devalues your best clients, who happily pay in full. It rewards bad clients, who will leave for someone cheaper. If you must negotiate, never lower your prices without taking something away.
- If you’re comfortable with your prices, they’re too low. Your rates should increase as you get better. If you’re comfortable with your rates, they probably don’t reflect your work’s current value.
- Sell to clients with money. The bigger the client, the greater the value you can create for them, and the more you can charge.
🎶 3. Website I’m Digging Into – RateYourMusic

Probably extremely, extremely late to the party on this, but one of my clients (thanks Taylor!) shared this site with me recently, and I’ve been obsessed.
RYM is a music database and community that is designed to help you discover new music.
I’ve been going down the rabbit hole uncovering their top-rated albums of specific years and decades.
What I love about it is their top 100 list is nothing like what you’ll find in traditional music publications.
🃏🐟 4. Big Weekend For Me – Magic Prerelease + Phish Sphere Tour
I’m going to be nerding it up this weekend with two of my hobbies:
- 🃏 Playing in 3 days of Magic: The Gathering tournaments for the release of the new set.
- 🐟 Watching the Phish Sphere livestream.

I was at all 4 Sphere shows in 2024 in Vegas and it was mindblowing. (my Phish show stats)
If you ever have the chance to go, highly recommend it!

💬 Quote I’m Pondering…
“If you enter a market and don’t know what to do, watch what everyone else is doing and then do the opposite if you want to be successful. The majority is almost always wrong.” – Earl Nightingale

WLW #197
👋 Hey Reader!
This is issue #197 of Work Less Wednesday, where I share with you 5 things you should know about, in 5 minutes or less. That leaves you with 10,075 other minutes this week.
🎙️ 1. New Podcast – How To Sell Creativity (For A Lot Of $)
Dropped a new podcast last week.
If you’ve ever wondered why some people seem to be able to charge 2-10x higher prices for the same creative work, this will explain what you’re missing.
55 minutes on how to sell your creativity for a lot of money.
💰 2. How To Charge More Cohort 2 – Enrollment Opens In 10 Days!

Time flies!
We are kicking off our second cohort of How To Charge More in just a few weeks.
In the 4 week program, you’ll get our complete pricing system that transforms how you charge, sell, and position your expertise – so you stop leaving money on the table and start getting paid what your work is actually worth.
If you’re even slightly interested, I highly recommend joining our waitlist here.
I love to take care of my best clients. 😉
You’ll be hearing more information soon!
And since we’re on the topic…
💰New Substack Post – How To Raise Your Prices

This piece is a teaser of what we’ll be covering in HTCM.
There are only four reasons you’re not charging more money.
I call them the four pillars of price.
They are:
- Your skill (the value you bring to the market)
- Your clients (the customer you’re selling to)
- Your articulation (your sales and marketing)
- Your belief (your self-esteem)
Find out how you can use them to charge more.
📺 3. Grab YouTube Transcripts Fast – Glasp

If you watched my workshop on “How I Use AI In My Business,” I talk also about how TRANSCRIPTS are most important asset you have in your business to leverage with AI.
You should be saving and using transcripts from your work OFTEN – they are your unique intellectual property that actually makes AI worth using.
Good transcripts include: Sales call transcripts, educational video transcripts, YouTube transcripts, past sales/marketing emails, coaching/client call transcripts, PDFs of books, etc.
To that end, I want to share a tool I’ve found beneficial for extracting transcripts from YouTube in as few steps as possible.
It’s a Chrome plugin called Glasp.
It automatically opens up in YouTube and allows you to quickly copy the transcript of the video.
(Previously I’d have to go to a website and copy it in).
Glasp also does summaries of videos using AI, but I haven’t found that useful personally.
🌐 4. Awesome Minimalist Website Builder – Cargo

I’ve been looking for a design-first website builder that allows me to move from idea to execution very quickly.
I was happy this week to come across Cargo, which is created by the type foundry Dinamo.
It’s a simple tool that makes beautiful, typography-forward websites.
I wanted to move my offerings page off of Notion into something that looks a little more premium, but didn’t have the time or patience to build it in Figma/Webflow/Framer.
I built it in Cargo in a morning.
Check out my new site here and Cargo here.
🖐 5. More Things I’m Into This Week…
🎧 What I’m Listening To – Temple In The Forest by David Naegle (thanks Matt!)
📺 Killer Short Form Video Database – Videodatabase.org
🤖 Great Video This Week – AI is Making CEOs Delusional
🎵 Music Interview & Performance I Enjoyed – Big Thief on World Cafe
💬 Quote I’m Pondering…
“The world will ask you who you are, and if you do not know, the world will tell you” Carl Jung

WLW #196
👋 Hey Reader!
This is issue #196 of Work Less Wednesday, where I share with you 5 things you should know about, in 5 minutes or less. That leaves you with 10,075 other minutes this week.

How to raise your prices. By a lot.
It will be a 4 week program, taught live with me covering 8 lessons including:
- How to craft a $10k-250k offer (how to structure, price, and sell)
- How to calculate the true value you create for clients (tangible and intangible)
- How to find clients who pay more money (and get them to do it!)
- How to raise your prices with current clients (exactly what to say and how to frame it)
- How to sell outcomes instead of deliverables (and work less hours for more money as a result)
Click here to join our waitlist for Cohort 2.
(P.S. I take special care of my clients who take early action so make sure to hop on there if you’re interested! 🤫)
🌎 2. Great Mini Article From Derek Sivers – I Was Inconsiderate But Now I’m Everywhere

Quick read from Derek Sivers about meeting people where they are.
Can be summed up with this quote:
“If you have something worth spreading, it’s considerate to spread it widely, to reach people through their favorite medium.”
P.S. Found the one on Sublime.
🤖 3. Why It Feels Like Your AI Sucks – Why AI Companies Lied About Context Windows
Have you noticed that when you upload a bunch of long files to AI, it feels like it didn’t read it?
Well, you’re right. It didn’t.
If you want to know why, this is a great explanation from Tiago Forte on YouTube.
As we continue to use AI, I believe 2 things are going to be big issues:
- How do we structure our workspaces so that AI can easily access and understand the data?
- What tools are incentivized to actually read everything? (ex. subscription vs. credit-based LLMs)
I discuss this concept in detail (and what to do about it) in my paid-Substack only workshop “How I’m Using AI In My Business) → You can sign up for $15/month to get access to it.
🎶 4. Music I’m Listening To – The Sagegazers On YouTube
Sometimes the algorithm gives you something good.
A few days ago, I came across this YouTube channel devoted to uploading cassettes of 80s new age and ambient music, and my mind has been blown.
There is so much awesome stuff here.
Ideal for deep work, meditation, and relaxation.
I have been working my way through the releases, but here are 4 that I’ve liked so far:
📼 Sérénité by Paul Sauvanet (1989)
📼 Where Rivers Run Free by Daniel Perret and Alap Jetzer (1988)
📼 Elysian Fields by Rocco Notte & Richard Bush (1984)
📼 Taoasis by Mathias Grassow (1987)
🖐 5. More Things I’m Into This Week…
📜 Great Article About The Hidden Scripts We Have About Work – “What Are the Scripts You Grew Up With About Work?”
📘 Book I’m Reading – The Language of Emotions by Karla McLaren
🥚 Anime Film I Watched This Week – Angel’s Egg (1985)
💉 Article I Enjoyed – The Ozempicization of the Economy by Kyla Scanlon
💬 Quote I’m Pondering…
“You are a success to the degree that you grow, and you grow to the degree that you become a wiser, more useful, and more secure person. In other words, we live to learn, and by this very process, we learn to live.” – Manly P. Hall

WLW #195
👋 Hey Reader!
This is issue #195 of Work Less Wednesday, where I share with you 5 things you should know about, in 5 minutes or less. That leaves you with 10,075 other minutes this week.
💸 1. New Substack Post – Never Lower Your Prices To Win A Client

Never lower your prices to win a client.
Yes, I said it.
There’s more than enough people telling you to keep your prices low.
Maybe it’s time you heard from someone who wants you to charge more?
Click here to read the full article.
P.S. If you’re REALLY serious about charging more money, I’d hop on the waitlist for Cohort 2 of 💸How To Charge More.
🤖 2. Grab The Workshop Replay – “How I’m Using AI In My Business”

In case you missed it live, the replay and resources from last week’s paid workshop “How I’m Using AI In My Business” are now available.
We covered all this, plus more:
- My “commandments of AI” that I teach to all of my clients.
- What I consider to be the most important asset you have in your business to leverage with AI (you have them, and you’re probably not using them).
- How I use AI to get inspiration to create my content and writing.
- The tool I use to speed up my writing process by 300% (don’t worry – I’m not outsourcing my writing to AI).
- And finally, my most-requested workflow – how I’m creating viral images for social media.
I’ve been getting a ton of great feedback on it, so if you want to get instant access to the replay, here’s what to do:
Go to this link, sign up for the paid tier; $15 a month gets you access (cancel anytime).
I’ve got some great paid posts and additional workshops scheduled, so now’s a great time to become a paid subscriber.
📕 3. Book I’m Reading – Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler

Two days ago I started Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler.
I’ve wanted to read her work for a long time and finally got around to starting it.
So far it’s great (reminds me of The Road), but I did want to share something cool I found while researching the book…
This is an image of the back of one of Octavia Butler’s notebooks from 1988.
In it, she repeated her affirmations.
It’s not surprising that her career ended up where it did.
(You can see many more examples here.)
🗞️ 4. Article Worth Reading – The art of cold-emailing a billionaire by Andy Lee
People don’t realize is it’s actually easier to contact busy people than you would think.
You just need to follow four principles:
- Establish competency.
- Make your ask.
- Be transparent with your self-interest.
- Show extra effort.
I encourage you to take five minutes and read the full article.
You’ll definitely get something out of it!

This is issue #194 of Work Less Wednesday, where I share with you 5 things you should know about, in 5 minutes or less. That leaves you with 10,075 other minutes this week.
🤖 1. Paid Workshop I’m Hosting This Friday – “How I’m Using AI In My Business”

I’m doing a little workshop for my paid Substack subscribers on Friday about how I’m using AI in my business, right now.
This is something I’ve been getting a lot of questions about.
I’m going to break down some of the tools I’m using and how I’m using them.
I have a pretty high bar for AI, so all the workflows I’m going to share are actually going to do something, not just make you feel productive.
We’ll cover all this, plus more:
- My “commandments of AI” that I teach to all of my clients.
- What I consider to be the most important asset you have in your business to leverage with AI (you have them, and you’re probably not using them).
- How I use AI to get inspiration to create my content and writing.
- The tool I use to speed up my writing process by 300% (don’t worry – I’m not outsourcing my writing to AI).
- And finally, my most-requested workflow – how I’m creating viral images for social media.
Sign up for the paid tier; $15 a month to get access (cancel anytime).
🤖 2. The Main Problem With AI – Sloperators by Adam Delehanty

As a supplement to my AI workshop story above, I want to share this article from Adam Delahanty.
I think it perfectly articulates why so many people (myself included) are feeling like AI is making the internet worse.
The fundamental point is that AI is a tool that applies leverage.
And it’s impact is defined by this equation:
Baseline × Leverage
From the article:
“The Baseline is you.
- Your IQ
- Your taste
- Your curiosity
- Your knowledge
- Your capacity for reflection
Leverage is everything that amplifies you:
- Internet media and distribution channels
- Communities & networks you’re actively a part of
- AI tools, the latest models
- Education (traditional and otherwise)
- Code (though I’m not covering that as much today)”
And this is what creates today’s problem.
Providing a high leverage tool to a large group of people with a low baseline means it feels like everything is getting worse.
📘 3. Book I’m Re-Reading – Slack by Tom DeMarco

I’m currently returning to a book I read and featured in Work Less Wednesday a few years ago.
This one was originally recommended by Basecamp co-founder Jason Fried.
Originally written in 2021, Slack: Getting Past Burnout, Busywork, and the Myth of Total Efficiency is about creating space in your business.
As I’m currently helping multiple clients navigate the challenges that come with rapidly expanding teams, I recommended this book to them and I’m revisiting it myself.
With AI seemingly creating more work than less work, it feels highly relevant to all entrepreneurs.
If you want a quick summary, this is a great primer.
Check out the full book here.
🎧 4. Great Podcast I Listened To This Week – The Age Of The Sublime with Robert Greene
Great conversation with bestselling author of The 48 Laws of Power Robert Greene about the topic of his new book: the sublime.
After suffering a stroke that made typing difficult, he spent the last seven years writing a book about the sublime by hand.
The podcast covers:
- We talk about why our minds are shrinking to the size of phones despite the sublimity around us
- The mystery of consciousness
- His views on AI
- How to reclaim a sense of awe in modern life
- and lots more.

WLW #193
👋 Hey Reader!
This is issue #193 of Work Less Wednesday, where I share with you 5 things you should know about, in 5 minutes or less. That leaves you with 10,075 other minutes this week.
🧭 1. This Week’s Substack Post – Your Inner Compass

Got a good one for this week!
Right now you have access to an advisor better than any coach, consultant, or therapist.
You just keep ignoring it.
This week’s Substack post is about how to listen to your inner compass to make better business decisions.
You’ll be able to:
- Make decisions faster (and more accurately)
- Build a business more aligned with what you want
- Cultivate a higher degree of self-trust
- And yes, make a lot more money
In it, I also provide 3 tools you can use to start cultivating your inner entrepreneur, right now.
🛠️ 2. Tool I’ve Been Using Daily For Inspiration – Sublime

This week’s Substack post was graciously sponsored by Sublime and I thought I’d share it here as well.
Sublime is my favorite tool for creative thinking and cultivating my taste.
I use it daily (literally) to collect references, images, quotes, articles, and ideas that move me, which I can later use in my life and work.
You can see the canvas I made for this week’s Substack in Sublime:
You can try it here for free and use code RICH to get 20% off a paid subscription.
🤖 3. Paid Workshop I’m Hosting Next Week – “How I’m Using AI In My Business”

Doing a fun workshop for my paid Substack subscribers on the 20th.
It will be about how I’m using AI in my business, right now.
This is something I’ve been getting a lot of questions about.
I’m going to break down some of the tools I’m using and how I’m using them (including my most-requested workflow, how I’m creating viral images for social media).
I have a pretty high bar for AI, so all the workflows I’m going to share are actually going to do something, not just make you feel productive.
Sign up for the paid tier; $15 a month to get access (cancel anytime).
P.S. For those already signed up, note the date change, it was originally scheduled for Thursday, the 19th.
🔥 4. Update On My Dante Reading Journey

A few weeks ago, I shared in WLW that I would be reading Dante’s Divine Comedy.
I found a challenge called 100 Days of Dante, which is an email course that has you go through one canto every day.
I’m pleased to say I am in the middle of Inferno right now and greatly enjoying it.
BUT…
Ultimately, I ended up discovering some better resources to help me digest the literature than 100 Days of Dante.
Here’s what I’m doing now:
- Columbia’s Digital Dante program. It includes multiple translations, detailed notes for each canto, and a full Dante course that they teach over two semesters.
- Claude. Because of the sheer volume of scholarly research on the Divine Comedy, I have found Claude to be extremely helpful in aggregating research. For each canto, I am able to get a detailed summary and interesting passages to pay attention to. It has really enriched my experience reading it. This is actual great AI use case.
- Dante art. Finally, there is a huge amount of visual art that accompanies the Divine Comedy. And nearly all of it is incredible. This article from the Public Domain Review is a great place to start.
