WORK LESS WEDNESDAY

WLW #126

July 18, 2024

🗓️ 1. I Was Busy This Week (And That’s Okay)

As I sit down to write WLW each week, I try to reflect on the past week.

  • What was I up to?
  • What did I learn?
  • What did I love?
  • What do I need to share?

This week, only one thought came to mind: I’ve been busy 😂

Over the last 7 days I:

  • Found a realtor
  • Got pre-approved for a mortgage
  • Saw 4 homes with my wife
  • Made an offer on one
  • The seller accepted and we went under contract
  • Interviewed 8 of my clients for an upcoming launch
  • Prepared to launch said thing (more soon!)
  • Worked with my team to prep for the evergreen launch of How To Work Less
  • Shared a new Instagram reel
  • Participated in therapy & neurofeedback
  • Worked deeply with my clients for nearly 8 hours

As the “Work Less” guy, this kind of schedule is outside the norm for me.

But it’s a busy season. And that’s okay. Sometimes it’s just like that.

I find most of the pain I feel from being “busy” is a result of a story I tell myself:

  • “I don’t want to be busy.”
  • “This is too much work.”
  • “I can’t handle it all.”

But when I just accept it, something cool happens: The pain goes away.

💸 2. How To Heal Your Relationship With Money – Blog Post by Tiago Forte

As I pointed out in my latest reelentrepreneurship will teach you who you really are.

For example:

If you have a problem with money, you’ll feel it.

And guess what?

99% of people have a problem with money.

Which leads me to this blog post from Tiago Forte.

This breaks down his journey over a 3-day intensive program designed to shift people’s attitudes toward money.

Unsurprisingly, his relationship with money was intertwined with his family of origin.

Definitely recommend giving this a read, and checking out the podcasts linked at the bottom for more.

🏦 3. 10 Lessons Selling $10M of Digital Products – Article by Nicholas Cole

10m gross volume

Cool article by Nicholas Cole detailing 10 lessons learned from selling $10m worth of info products.

Some hot takes I resonated with:

  1. There’s no such thing as “passive income.” (Definitely read his explanation re: organic vs. paid)
  2. Books and eBooks are one of the worst business models for selling information.
  3. The best digital education products are 50% education, 50% belief-breaking. (I would argue it’s even higher towards belief-breaking.)

There’s also a YouTube version if you don’t read.

👀 4. Video Game Speedruns: A Guilty Pleasure

As you may or may not know, I have a past life as a pro gamer.

(I spent 2 years as a pro gamer, playing Hearthstone. During that time I went from total amateur to winning a national tournament. I won thousands of dollars in cash and prizes, traveled to Los Angeles for free, and slung cards. I’m now retired.)

But gaming will always have a special place in my heart.

Recently my guilty pleasure has been watching video game speedruns.

If you don’t know what that is:

Speedrunning is the act of playing a video game, or section of a video game, with the goal of completing it as fast as possible. (wikipedia)

It’s fascinating to see how people exploit the games to beat them as fast as possible.

If you’re interested, Games Done Quick is the place to start (here’s their YouTube channel).

Some of my favorite runs I’ve watched recently:

  1. 💍 Elden Ring (1:10:42)
  2. 🍄 Super Mario Odyssey (in 3:21:12)
  3. 🗡️ The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (in 1:13:06)

💬 5. Powerful Quote On Work-Life Integration I’m Pondering

“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he’s always doing both.” – James A. Michener
