🎸 2. The Case For Not Productizing – Blog by Patrick McAndrew
Productize yourself.
It’s the secret to effortless scale.
Or at least, that’s what the internet wants you to believe.
In this blog, Patrick McAndrew makes the case for not productizing.
Productizing your work compresses its true value. It reduces something expansive and transformative into something transactional. By contrast, offering your presence and wisdom empowers others to expand.
He argues that presence and wisdom are the real scarce resources where true value can be found.
I tend to agree.
Entrepreneurs would have a much easier time if they focused on increasing their prices and adding value, rather than trying to scale through getting more clients.
In a productized and disconnected age, the most valuable thing you can offer isn’t something you can measure or package. It’s the unique combination of your wisdom and your presence—and that’s worth far more than any product could ever be.

📕 3. Documentary Series I’m Watching – Century Of The Self
Speaking of Patrick… He recommended this series to me the first time I met him.
Nearly a year later I’m finally watching.
This documentary series from 2002 is truly eye opening.
A lot of the way things “are” about our culture aren’t just because they “are” – someone made them that way.
Specifically, Sigmund Freud, and his nephew Edward Bernays (“the father of public relations”).
Here’s the summary:
“This series is about how those in power have used Freud’s theories to try and control the dangerous crowd in an age of mass democracy.
The Century of the Self asks deeper questions about the roots and methods of modern consumerism, representative democracy, commodification and its implications. It also questions the modern way we see ourselves, the attitudes to fashion and superficiality.”
