WORK LESS WEDNESDAY
WLW #18
š 1. Book I Started This Week – Life Force by Tony Robbins
At this point Iāll probably read any book that Tony puts out.
Here’s why:
āTony Robbins’ Priming exercise was a key part of my morning routine for many years.
My wife and I attended Unleash The Power Within Virtual in November 2020 and it was incredible.
I read Awaken The Giant Within last year and loved it.
By now you know Iām pretty into biohacking and health, and Life Force is 700+ pages of the most cutting edge advances in precision medicine.
As a disclaimer, some of the ideas in this book are definitely not mainstream. They may not even be right.
But the gems in here are worth the price of admission.
Harvard Medical School says the half-life of medical knowledge is 18 to 24 months. Thatās how rapidly things are changing.
Thatās why I read books like this.
š 2. Book I āRetiredā This Week – The Lean Startup
When I read 53 books last year, I learned an important lesson.
When to stop reading a book.
I had high hopes for The Lean Startup. It came highly recommended.
But after about 100 pages, I wasnāt feeling it.
It wasnāt that the book was bad, I just had already been exposed to most of its core concepts.
Thatās actually a sign the book was great when it was published in 2011. Because its ideas have trickled down to me without me reading it.
A sure sign you should stop a book is if you arenāt excited to pick it up.
āThe Lean Startup sat on my reading chair for a whole week without getting any action.
So hereās what I did.
At page 121, I āRetiredā the book.
I hopped online and read a summary of the rest of the key points, just to make sure I wasnāt missing anything good.
Then I moved on.
š° 3. Article I Liked – Marc Andreessenās Guide to Personal Productivity
I stumbled across this 2007 gem by Marc Andreessen this week.
These three ideas jumped out to me:
šļø Donāt Keep A Schedule
Refuse to commit to meetings, appointments, or activities at any set time in any future day.
As a result, you can always work on whatever is most important or most interesting, at any time.
šØāš» Structured Procrastination
Generally in the course of a day, there is something you have to do that you are not doing because you are procrastinating.
While youāre procrastinating, just do lots of other stuff instead.
š± Strategic Incompetence
The best way to to make sure that you are never asked to do something again is to royally screw it up the first time you are asked to do it.
š¦ 4. Twitter Thread I Liked – Top 5 Things Every Remote Worker Should Have (But Most Donāt)
šĀ 5.Ā Read My Manifesto! –Ā ICYMI: The Work Less Manifesto
The Work Less Manifesto is my philosophy of what it means to work smarter, not harder.
Itās 10 affirmations that define what it means to life a Work Less Life.
Iāve been working on this for the last 6 months and am really excited to finally share it with you!
Youāll be hearing me talk about these principles a lot more in the coming weeks.
